This conversationally oriented program will cover the basics of speaking and reading the French language and is designed for students who have had little or no previous instruction in or exposure to the language. Vocabulary includes greetings, numbers, days and nouns in feminine, masculine, singular and plural. Grammar includes present tense of verbs and an introduction to using past tense. The verbs 'être', 'avoir' and 'er' verbs will be used.

Jane is fluent in French (DELT B2 Certificate). She worked as a Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF) Participant OCTOBER 2020 - APRIL 2021. She studied University of BC and Université Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium. Jane focuses more on French from France, but whenever there is a pertinent difference that would be useful if someone were traveling to Quebec, she will mention it.

If you have previously taken a French language course but are still operating at a basic level, this course is for you. Your vocabulary should already include greetings, numbers, days, etc. You must also have familiarity with using verbs in the present tense and have had some exposure to using verbs in the past. Level 2 will introduce you to the future tense and conditional tenses, negative sentences and key verbs such as faire, aller, vouloir, pouvoir, etc.

This course is designed to expand vocabulary and increase general fluency through communication situations. At this level, all instruction is in French. Conversational grammar points include: imperfect, passcompos future tense verb conjugation; descriptive & possessive adjectives; conjunctions & the subjunctive; possessive & interrogative pronouns. Writing exercises will be assigned as homework. Prerequisite is French level 2 or equivalent. Text extra (Bescherelle,English Edition) is extra and is available on the first day of class.
